Ardens Rose of Sharon is an upright flowering shrub known for its large, double lilac-purple flowers with ruffled centers and darker reddish-purple markings. Its tropical-looking blooms appear throughout summer and often continue into early fall, bringing dependable color to the garden when many spring-flowering shrubs have finished. Ardens works well as a specimen plant, flowering hedge, privacy screen, or background shrub. It also attracts butterflies and hummingbirds and handles Southern heat and humidity well once established.

Notes
Ardens Rose of Sharon blooms on new growth, so pruning in late winter or early spring won’t remove the upcoming season’s flower buds. Plant it in full sun for the heaviest flowering, although it can tolerate some part sun. It’s adaptable to heat, humidity, occasional drought, and different soil types, but it performs best where the soil drains well.
