Blazing Star is a tough, upright perennial known for its tall spikes of purple, fuzzy-looking flowers that bloom from the top down. It’s a great choice for sunny garden beds, pollinator gardens, and naturalized areas. Butterflies, bees, and other pollinators love it, and once established, it handles heat and dry conditions pretty well. Blazing Star also adds nice vertical color to the garden when many summer plants are starting to slow down.

Notes
Blazing Star, also called Liatris, is a low-maintenance native-style perennial that works well in sunny Southern gardens. It does best in well-drained soil and doesn’t like sitting wet for long periods. The tall flower spikes are excellent for attracting butterflies and bees. Leave the spent blooms standing for a while if you want a more natural look or to support wildlife, then cut back in late fall or early spring.
