Flame Willow is a fast-growing deciduous shrub prized for its brilliant orange-red stems, which become especially colorful after the leaves drop in fall. Its narrow green foliage provides a soft texture during spring and summer before turning yellow in autumn. Once bare, the upright, twisting branches create a fiery winter display that stands out against evergreen plants, snow, or a muted landscape. Flame Willow works well as a specimen shrub, informal hedge, privacy screen, rain-garden plant, or colorful addition near ponds and other moist areas.

Notes
Flame Willow produces its brightest orange-red color on younger stems. Removing some of the oldest branches near ground level in late winter or early spring encourages fresh, colorful growth and helps control the shrub’s fast-growing habit. It performs best in full sun and consistently moist soil but can tolerate part sun and brief dry periods once established. Plant it away from foundations, septic systems, and underground pipes because willow roots naturally seek moisture.
