Forsythia is a fast-growing deciduous shrub known for its bright yellow flowers that cover the bare branches in early spring. Its cheerful blooms often appear before the leaves emerge, making Forsythia one of the first shrubs to bring color back to the landscape after winter. The arching branches and dense growth make it useful as a flowering hedge, privacy screen, specimen shrub, or background plant. Once established, Forsythia is dependable, adaptable, and easy to grow in a wide range of garden conditions.

Notes
Forsythia blooms on old wood, so prune it shortly after flowering to avoid removing the following year’s flower buds. Remove some of the oldest branches near ground level every few years to encourage fresh growth and maintain a natural arching shape. Full sun produces the heaviest flowering, although the shrub can tolerate part sun. Once established, Forsythia handles heat, clay soil, and short periods of drought well.
