Java Red Weigela is a dependable flowering shrub known for its arching shape, burgundy-tinted foliage, and abundant spring flowers. Deep red flower buds open into trumpet-shaped pinkish-red blooms that attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. The main flowering display occurs from late spring into early summer, with occasional additional blooms later in the season. Java Red works well as a specimen shrub, informal hedge, foundation planting, or colorful addition to a mixed border.

Notes
Java Red Weigela produces flowers on old wood, so prune it shortly after the main spring flowering period to avoid removing next year’s flower buds. Plant it in full sun for the best flowering and strongest burgundy foliage, although it can tolerate some afternoon shade. Once established, it’s relatively drought tolerant but performs best with regular watering during extended hot or dry periods. Older interior branches can be removed periodically to improve airflow and encourage fresh growth.
