DreamCloud® Hydrangea

DreamCloud® Hydrangea is a compact, reblooming bigleaf hydrangea known for its crisp white mophead flowers and tidy, rounded growth habit. The bright blooms cover the shrub throughout the growing season and remain white longer than many other white hydrangeas. In certain climates, older flowers may gradually develop deep pink tones as they mature.

Its dark green foliage and strong stems create an attractive background for the flowers. DreamCloud® also offers improved resistance to powdery mildew and Cercospora leaf spot, two common problems that can affect bigleaf hydrangeas during warm, humid weather.

Growing approximately three to four feet tall and wide, DreamCloud® works well in foundation plantings, shrub borders, low flowering hedges, mass plantings, decorative containers, and smaller gardens. Its manageable size also makes it suitable beneath windows or near patios and walkways where a larger hydrangea might become crowded.

Plant DreamCloud® Hydrangea where it receives morning sun and protection from intense afternoon heat, especially in Georgia and other Southern gardens. Choose moist, well-drained soil and water deeply during the first growing season while the root system becomes established.

Apply two to three inches of mulch around the root zone to help retain moisture and keep the soil cooler. Keep the mulch several inches away from the stems to prevent excess moisture from collecting around the plant’s base.

DreamCloud® blooms on both old and new wood, allowing it to produce flowers over an extended season. Avoid heavy pruning because removing healthy older stems may reduce the earliest blooms. Wait until fresh growth appears in spring, then remove only branches that are clearly dead, damaged, or weak.
