Java Red Weigela

Java Red Weigela is a dependable flowering shrub known for its graceful, arching growth, burgundy-tinted foliage, and abundant spring flowers. Deep red flower buds open into trumpet-shaped pinkish-red blooms that stand out beautifully against the darker leaves. Java Red Weigela works well as a specimen shrub, informal hedge, foundation planting, flowering screen, or colorful addition to a mixed border. Give it enough space for its branches to develop their natural arching form. Avoid crowding it against buildings, walkways, or neighboring shrubs where frequent trimming would be necessary.

Plant Java Red Weigela in full sun for the strongest foliage color and heaviest flowering. It can tolerate some light shade, but plants receiving less sunlight may produce fewer blooms and less intense leaf color. Choose moist, well-drained soil and water regularly during the first growing season.
